need help with air bag code 12 ,would like to know if the blue box is the problem ,also have no cruise control ,but my horn does work, also when i put my ignition on accessary i get the 5 beeps 5 times ,93 with the 3.0
You have a faulty clockspring, no doubt about it. You can get a new one from the dealer. It is a failure that is fairly common. Not really a design defect, just something that sometimes happens.
The clockspring has multiple contacts just because your horn contact is intact doesn't mean that the airbag contact is intact. They can go in any order.
As the vehicle is now the airbag is disabled the computer realizes this and is sending an error code.
The air bag readiness indicator is the prime means of determining the air bag system status. However, if the air bag indicator is inoperative and an air bag system fault exists, a tone will sound in a pattern of five sets of five beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator will need to be serviced before further diagnosing and testing can be completed. Unless serviced, the Supplemental Air Bag Restraint System may not function properly in the event of an accident.
the beeps are a warning backup to a burned out air bag bulb
replace the clockspring, dealer only item
search the Aero forum for safe installation method
I know, 96. . . .I was so sure it was the clockspring, I figured I must have had a bad one from the dealer and replaced it a second time. I have reached somewhat of a workaround, though. I used a very large hypodermic syringe and pumped that little buzzer full of epoxy. I tried unsoldering it from the board but the circuit missed it and wouldn't let the car start.
That's the way things go at this address. Nothing is ever simple.
I never thought of those. Will have to check. I have air bag # 3 in place now. Never had an accident; twice had it jump out and surprize me. Once I was parked in the shade reading a newspaper and had the keys in my pocket.
ya, the system is armed and ready to fire even with the key off and some kook hits you parked and reading the paper
as long as the battery is alive and the SRS system has not errored out, the bag will go boom
must have a crushed or damaged wire or crash sensor
rig ever been in an accident or had work done with radiator and front grille out?
Nobody hit me, it just happened.
I think the previous owner clipped a milepost and creased the right passenger door and sliding door panels, but nothing more serious than $100 at the body shop.
I had the radiator out for a leak repair, but that was a couple of years after the air bag incidents. I don't see any evidence that anything else was ever done to it. I bought it used with 22K on it in 1995. I think it was a lease return. I have over 215K on it now, and the most I have ever done is a water pump, clockspring (twice), and a radiwtor leak.
Im having kind of the same problem with my van (95 Aerostar AWD). First it started out as the 5 beep....found out that the bulb was takin out for the airbag ha. Put it in an it stared flashing code 45 I beleive. Was told to just take the fuse out for now but now I get code 12. I had popped the tension pully just after I bought the van and had to drive it back home about 30 miles and now the Alt light is on. Had my light do some strange things for the first time 2 nights ago. Went into a high beam low beam switch back and forth. Was told that the Voltage regulator might be the problem. Not to sure about anything right now.
