I have a 95 x-cab 2wheel drive 5speed powerstroke. I am pulling a trailer most of the time. THe problem is it doesn't seem to have much power. It has a new fuel pump and idles fine. I think i have an exhaust leak, there is a bolt head missing on the manifold, would this cause a great loss in power? I have another psd 5spd crew cab truck that has alot more power than this one. If an exhaust leak could be causing this problem i will get it fixed asap.
thanks
yes the exhaust is used t drive the turbo so you are loosing drive pressure which results in less boost which means less fuel burned which mean less power.
also how is the fuel filter and oil change? have they been done lately?
i'm starting to think that maybe his exhaust manifold is rusted shut anyway and that the bolt might not have been needed anyway haha that's why i wanna see if he has a boost gauge or anything... or do you have a buddy with a banks or edge outlook thingy to see what kinda boost you're pushin??
The oil and fuel filter are both pretty fresh, less than 500 miles. I do not have any guages other than those from the factory. I can put a boost guage on fairly easy. I will just put a T in the line running to the MAP sensor. I didn't know that a exhaust leak would cause this much loss in power. I am pulling a load of about 6000 lbs nearly everyday and the truck is a dog.The truck still has the muffler but no cat. the back pressure valve is wired open
Could someone tell me if i can remove the manifold without pulling the engine? The back bolt in the manifold is broke off right at the head.
Thanks to everyone, I guess I will have to get to working and pray that i don't twist off any of the remaining manifold bolts.
My truck had the same problem when I bought it. The bolt head was broke off. You need to pull the manifold and most likely have it surfaced at a local machine shop as it is prob warped or rusted some where the leak is. Most of our trucks don't use gaskets on the manifold so it is important to have a flat surface. The bolt came right out with vice grips once I had the manifold off. -Eric

if its a very minor warp measure with a straight edge, I've been able to take a file and true it up in a vise
