hydraulic lifters...

hey guys,
what should i do to get them ready for installation in the motor...i had read somewhere a long time ago that i should put them in oil, such as a coffee can filled with oil overnight. is this right, or should i just drop em in? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks,
mike

Don't bother. Get a strong drill and a oil pump primer tool (or make one from and old dist), run the oil pump BEFORE you fire up the engine. Also, it's a good idea to remove the valve covers and watch for proper oil circulation, that what I did. I ran the drill for over 20 min just to be sure and checked each side for proper oiling. It nearly burned up my 3/8" drill, so I used my 1/2" and it worked fine, (the FE runs counterclockwise so check which way to rotate it first)

this method will not only pre-lube the lifter, but will fill the filter and all the passages and allow you to verify proper oil pressure.
