My 2001 4x4 f150 ABS comes on under a few MPH 90% of the time, I can feel it in the brake pedal. Some times it comes on when I' going a few MPH without my foot on the pedal, I can feel a buzz in the floor. My mechanic has cleaned all the sensors & checked everything.
Do I have 4WABS?
I saw a post that its a Teves 4 ABS, Is this ture for a 01 4x4?
Can Autozone do a free scan to locate the fault?
I see the front ABS sensors are about $122 each for a 4x4, $ 19 for rear.
The sensor wire at the wheel can have internal open condition, causing the system to think that wheel is locked and ABS trys to make things right. You can test the sensors with digital ohm meter, while the meter is attatch to the sensor harness ( unplug from the frame) wiggle the wire and see if you find an intermittent open in the unit.
I replaced the rear diff sensor but it didn't fix the problem.
I measured the front wheel sppeed sensors with a ohmmeter, both read about 450 ohms. What should they read?
Rear reads about 1500 ohms.
This is a Kelsey-Hayes 4WABS.
I saw a post to remove the right kick panel, jumper a wire to ground and read the ABS flashes. Does anybody have a article for this? I would try it if I had instructions.
I have the same problem...checked all the sensors and even hooked up to it with a special scanner and all the wheels showed the same speed... so it must be in the ABS controler...i havent looked much into yet though...im hoping that the controller is seperate from the modulator or whatever you want to call it...but the control box does sit on top of the "modulator for the brakes" lol stupid lengo...
All the tires are the same. 2 year old Michelin cross terrain. Great tires in the winter.
All 4 rotors & pads are less than a year old.
I looked at all the ABS parts rockauto com has but didn't see the abs module listed. rock usually has every part commonly avaliable.
Anybody try to buy one? How much?
im going to swap the brains for the modulator off of a wrecked one some time soon....just have to find the time to do it... if its even seperate from the modulator..
So, it is active 55-15, then stops the pulse. Do you have any brake noise? Some systems will activate ABS when a rotor and pad have a harmonic vibration. If you brake firmly to hard 55-15; what happens.
Are you sure the truck has the right rotors on it?
I had a Econoline van that the rotors were replaced under warranty and the abs would come on after going over a speed bump. I took it back and the rotors on the front didn't have the one rib in them that was solid for the sensor to see it rotating.
also, as I noted earlier, there may be a harmonic being generate upon braking. Sounds like a low note, and it triggers the abs to run. If the wheel sensor cables have tested good by vigoriously twisting them during an ohm test, and the rotors are the correct ones, something as simple as dust on rotors or even a small stone can get kicked up and end up embedded in the pad.
