I've got a 1999 XL with the V6 Engine. I want to add some pickup, but don't want to sacrifice milage. I'm thinking about adding dual exaust and an aftermarket chip, is there anything I need to know? Will I be able to tell a big difference in acceleration? Please help a rookie out! I love this site and would love to hear from someone with more experience.
you have to be careful what you do to later model trucks, because of the computers. everything you do has to work with the computer or engine and transmission(automatic) won't work right.
check with the big name performance guys(i.e. edelbrock) to see what they have to offer.
one of the best things for acceleration is a gear swap in your axles. but, again, this could affect the computer.
Do you think that a correctly matched performance chip and adding dual exaust will give me noticable pickup in my V6??? What else can I do that is fairly cheap and doesn't harm gas milage?
the chip may help, the exhaust may help or hurt! again the computers are very sensitive to changes. check wwith suppliers of exhaust kits and chips as to expected performance with upgrades. read the performance mags for tests.
reading the post on 4 diffent ford forems the opinion is;
the best bang for the bucks.
1. superchip(con==uses prem gas)
2. fipk system(k&n-airforceone-airaid)
3. cat-back system(ones that keep low torque==ie-gibson single cat back system)

it does if you want the full benefit of it. unless you have the flip chip superchip and even with the flip chip you need prem gas to get the full benefit.
