I have a 2000 exped. a4wd now and then when turning at low speed feels like it is in 4 wd (wheel tugs on your hands a bit) any ideas trk has 154,000 on it
Replace the diff lube and add more friction modifier...worked like a charm for mine with the same problem. If the diff lube is ok, just add an ounce or two of friction modifier to stop the limited slip from grabbing around sharp corners.
johnpvb, I think he's talking about the front wheels, not the rear.
Chad, mine was doing the exact same thing so I took the fuse out, wired in a dash-mounted switch so now I have 2wd with 4wd available with the flip of the new switch. I really should diagnose the real problem, but for the time being, my new system works great.
Back to the problem, it could be any number of things but most find that by replacing the shift motor on the outside of the transfer case takes care of the problem.
