86 f150 302 had efi changed to 4 barrel with msd distributer and msd 6l spark box it died only had money for stock control box so the plugs were cut heres the big question i didnt cut it my self so to hook it up to stock spark controlbox do you just match up the wires to there color or what could use some help
The "stock" control box for your truck is not going to be the original 86 version if it has been converted to a carb. You will need the duraspark II box from a carbed version. Buy the one with the blue grommet. Here's a diagram on how to hook it up. You should have the hot wires you need that are now running the msd box, but you may need to add the resistor.
the distributer i have now is 79 302 im realy suprised it runs white wire is not even hooked up and colors are all mixed up i didnt install it and the guy who did messed it all up and didnt keep the instructions
It will run ok with the white wire disconnected. The white wire gets voltage during cranking, and tells the box to retard the timing. This helps the engine crank over easier during hot weather. It's a good feature to have if you get around to hooking it up.
Also, since you have it running, check the voltage on the coil + while the engine is running. It should be somewhere around 8-10 volts. If it's 12 volts or higher, then you do not have the resistor installed, and that can make the coil and the ignition box run hot and fail.
