You need to determine what you want to spend on the engine/tranny combo and make your decision accordingly. You could go cheap and just drop in a running salvage yard engine or your 351 engine. You could spend more and rebuild a salvage yard engine or your 351 engine. Or you could go all out and drop in a new crate engine. The options are limitless not unlike the the recommendations you will get. I say put in what ever YOU want or can efford. You aren't going to please a majority here anyway.

I'm with everyone who says put what YOU want in it. While most of the darksiders are running Chevy engines, I'm reaching for far left field and putting a Mercedes diesel in my 53

How Cool is That ? Nuff Said..... I hate this darkside stuff. I wouldn't cut up a gennie truck, but if you're working the nasty metal and getting it on the road with a Briggs & Stratton you're my brother/sister......

Mine is pretty much stock. I totally agree though. If I were to swap drivetrains, it would stay ford.

I rode in a 55 a few weeks ago that had a dodge 318 (automaic) in it. That was different at least.

I get sick of everyone sticking a SBC in everything. (that is just my opinion )The T-buckets were in town this week. I identified 2 flat heads and the rest were ch**y drivetrains with ford badges all over them.

Since you no longer have the flat head...stick a Y-block in it. That would be ford and quite different from any other one of your year.

Which still makes me smile.

Now if only it ran...*scratches head*

I wouldn't mind putting a powerstroke in my Effie..if I got one for free...but then again, how many people get free Powerstrokes, plus, my 302 just sounds awesome, especially with the rare twisted factory headers (screw the cast-crap)

Thanks alot to all of you for your imput. In the late fall I will get back as to which way I will be going. As I said before I have a Ford with a sbc and a T350 tranny all of which is on a 83 Oldsmobile frame. Nice cruiser, but its not all Ford.
