can i just get a simple answer!!!

This seems to be a confusing topic on the net, but i don't think it has to be.

I just scored (or got cursed with) a supposed H.0 5.0 motor (said to be from 85). Free is free, so i took it, and dumped the ol 50 lb intake. It looked like a tbi type set up, so i offed it, in favor of a stealth intake/650 demon combo.

When i took the intake off, the lifter valley lacked the lifter hold downs like my stang has. This led me to believe this is a non-roller motor, so i looked up the castin numbers, and found E7TE (87 truck motor). Is this roller/non roller/??? It has the provisions in the lifter valley for the lifter hold down, but they're not tapped and threaded. I really just want to know what kind of perf. parts i can order, as well as firing order. Any info would be helpful, and i will reply any info that i am missing.

also, i looked at the lifter on the cam through the lifter valley, and it looked like a flat tappet.

Thanks

sounds like you got a basic truck 5.0 engine there. sorry no roller setup for you with out spending lots of money. honestly though if your dropping this into a 4wd truck or bronco you dont want to think stang anyway.

there are plenty of good flat tappet cams available, also those heads flow much better then an 85 5.0 ho would have.

if you can give us an idea what your dropping this into, what you intend to use it for would greatly help us help you.

I was under the impression E7TE was a type of cylinder head, I could be wrong though.

If it was a 87 truck engine than I think it would be a flat tappet cam and a non roller in which case there are flat tappet cams available from Comp and Lunati. You can also contact...I forget his name. He is on this site or another and builds custom cam grinds and he may be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm sure one of the more educated folks will chime in.

damn man! you guys are quick (i appreciate it!). The truck is an 82 f-100, 2wd rat rod. t-5 will be behind this puppy, it's lowered, has a 9" rear with 3:73's (eventually).

I had a street stang, but unfortunately, it went the way of the drag racer, and is no longer streetable (without paying 8 bux a gallon). Anyhow, i just want a stout lil 302, pumping a 100 shot of nitrous occasionally to drive daily, and whip imports. That's the main purpose

The 85 GT Mustangs with an Auto tranny had a CFI injected (throttlebody), non-roller 5.0. The 5-speed cars had the 4bbl roller cam motors.

If you have an E7TE block then it is roller ready, you just have to drill and tap the bosses for the spider assembly, some of the earlier motors were not fully machined for the roller assembly if they were not going to be using it. Use caution if you do this the cam bearing sits right below the bosses. You can use any Windsor cam in this motor, 5.0 or 5.8, roller or flat tappet, your choice, you'll just have to route the plug wires to match the cam firing order.

Thumbs up

Conaski is correct. The block was not finished for the spider. The top of the lifter bores has been machined but not the holes for the spider to be attached to the block. Ford Racing books tell you how to do this correctly. Good luck! Ron

thaks guys.. all help is much appriciated. I ended up just going the flat tappet route. Just a small .484 lift, 272 duration (adv) into this pig motor. I just rebuilt the 650 speed demon, and put it onto a weiland stealth manifold. The guy at crane said to put the timing gear at the advance keyway, and use an aftermarket ignition. we'll see what happens, and if it is a dog, i'll squirt it with some giggle gas. I love that stuff

Ditto, it's a roller block that was used with a flat tappet cam from the factory.

And save your money on that aftermarket ignition. The factory Duraspark setup is plenty.
