Mine hasn't ever done that even racing it at the strip on numerous runs!! That doesn't sound normal at all, but I couldn't begin to tell you what might be causing it.
If you're talking about the paint peeling off of your rearend cover, I think it's just crappy paint. I know lots of folks get them powdercoated in custom colors or get a maghytec.
FYI--I have 95K on my truck, abuse it at the track occassionally, tow occassionally, and haven't changed the rearend oil yet. I know shame on me, but I read it was lifetime (yeah right) and I'm fixing to put in a Truetrac anyway.
If your confident the paint bubbleing/flaking is new, I would just change the oil. Its a fairly easy job. Once you have the cover off, inspect for metal shavings and that your gears do not look wildly discolored. I think there is an additive you should add too in addition to the gear oil.

And some one told me you dont even need to check it per ford..............i check mine every 5k and clean the magnet.
Today I was looking under the rear of truck and noticed the paint had blistered on the rear end, is that normal or should I be concerned? I only have 15,000 miles on my 6.0 and pull a 10,000 lb toy hauler several times a year.
The rears do get hot. Definitely hot to the touch. I'm sure it doesn't do paint any good. Especially if it is crappy paint. I measure the temp after I drove on the highway and it was about 140 deg F.
It's pretty normal for the paint to blister on the differential covers. I don't think it's a sign of a heat problem or anything like that. You can remove it and have it powder coated as a good alternative to the paint.
Better yet there is a FORD OEM aluminum finned cover that will allow better cooling. If you look at the 08s you will see the cover I'm referencing. I got mine locally for $40 +tax and if you are intrested I bought an extra I'd be willing to sell for the same price + shipping.
