E-Brake dinger

Mornin,

I bought an 03 F350 super cab SRW with the 7.3 last fall. LOVE the truck so far. Recently when I release the E-Brake, which I use every time I park, the brake releases fine, but the light on the dash stays on and the dinger goes off for like a minute or so. Eventually, the dinger stops, but the light stays on. If I keep pulling the release handle, eventually the light goes out and all is good.

It sounds like something is just sticking or something, but I have no idea where to look for the sensor or whatever it uses to determine the e-brake is still on. Any ideas where to aim the wd-40?

Any help is appreciated - thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,

I've got an 03 250 and have not experienced this issue. If it were me, I'd look for the cable and sleeve right behind the release handle and shoot some WD into the sleeve at that point.

I agree that it sounds like somethings sticking and it should be a relativly easy fix.

Joe

At first, I'd be looking for a misalignment of the micro switch. When you press on the parking brake, look where the pedal meets the underside of the dash and you'll see it. But after reading your post again, it sounds like the pedal isn't coming all the way back up to make contact with the switch. I agree with msgtg that something is sticking.

Could it be low on brake fluid? that can case the light to come on.

Same thing happened to me. There is a rubber stopper on the pedal itself, and it makes contact with the switch under the dash to turn off the brake light. Mine got loose and wouldn't make good contact. Tried to figure out what was wrong when the whole rubber stop just fell out on the floor. Check that first to see if it's the problem.

I had this problem. I called the local Ford parts department and they said $80 for pedal assembly plus then installation. Thanks, but no thanks. I went to (pick your favorite home improvement store) and bought a rubber stopper (same kind of thing you put in a test tube in chemistry class. I drilled a hole in the center and then after removing the old rubber stopper with a knife (it was mashed beyond use and would almost never stop dinging) placed the new stopper on the arm and ran a screw up from the bottom through the existing hole. 10k miles later still works great, and shortly after that I learned how to adjust my emergency brakes back at the rear-end. So I had 85k on a truck that the emergency brake barely ever had engaged, the dealer had even replaced the e-brake pedal assembly under warrenty but never adjusted the brakes. I had assumed the cables were half froze up so didn't bother with it. Now the e-brake works like a champ and no dinging to drive me mad.
