I just finished installing a CD player in my F-100 ('77, 300 I6, 3sp.), and everything works well except for one problem. When I turn on the headlights, the CD player turns off.. The truck didn't come with a radio installed, just a gaping hole in the dashboard. I thought I traced the wires correctly from the fuse box, but maybe I goofed somewere.
Rerun the acc and power wires....the yellow wire to the battery and the red to the fuse on the fusebox.....usually it says radio...but i also place it sometimes where it says acc...its just a couple min job...i hope this helps
Don't wire anything requiring power (except radio dial light) to any wire that's blue with a red stripe.
That's for Instrumentation lights (cluster & dash)
Wiring options.
Personally I like to install a "fused.. always power on" power block for Stereo type power requirements.
i had the same issue not a week ago. i ended up running a hot wire with a inline fuse to the soleniod. I left the factory radio where it belonged and built a box to mount to the bottom of the dash.
It's good you did a search, but considering he only has two posts and this thread is two years old, I doubt he's still around here. I have a pic of a fiberglass console I made to put my CD player under the dash. But I have a different radio now and it's mounted where the radio is supposed to be.
i want to keep the oldschool look of the am and it still works so i'm going to use the setup from a 94 mitsu galant i recently scrapped has cup holders and a cubby hole along with the radio mounts i'm just gonna build it into the dash.
