how to i convert my 89 f-150 from speed density to mass air, and how much does it cost? i have heard of it but haven't found any info about it, do i just take a mustang sensor and "plug" it into my harnes? pleas help, i want to put on a K&N FIPK, Headers, dual exhaust and was told that those might make my truck run worse because of the speed density sensor not being able to pick up the changes and adjust to them. thanks in advance
Your information was correct. HP modifications to a speed density system typically either make the engine sluggish and unresponsive or result in no change whatsoever. Mass air is definitely the way to go. Unfortunately, you can't just "plug in" a mass air flow sensor and be off and running. The engine computer and the fuel injection firing order are completely different. Speed density pulses a whole bank at a time and mass air pulses each individual injector in sequence. Ford Motorsport sells a conversion kit. I used it on my '88 F-150 with good results. It's easy to install, too. It comes with a new computer, mass airflow sensor, all the hoses, clamps, etc., and a new add-onn wiring harness for the mass air sensor and the fuel injectors. If I remember right, they get about $600 for it. Summit and PAW both carry Ford Motorsport equipment and can get you what you need. Good luck!
I have a 95' F-150 with a 300/6 5 spd and i was wondering if i have to do the mass/air switch too. I know I don't have a mass air sensor so I assume I do. :-( any info would be appreciated
They do not currently make a mass air kit for the 300. It did come out in 96 on some 300's and I believe california has the bulk of them. Unless you find one with the mass air you are stuck. That's life
