Highboy steering conversion

I finally made some progress on my power assist to power steering conversion. I took some ideas from different people on their setups (thanks to the galleries) and pretty much got the job done. I had my brother do the welding (since I'm terrible) while I did the cutting and fitting. Here is a couple of pics. More are in my gallery. I used a steering box from a 78 F250 4x4.

That looks good. What kind of linkage are you using to go from the steering box to the left tire, or can you use the original one? I can't remember if mine is adjustible or not.

I am able to use the stock drag link, and the reason for the notching of the crossmember to position the steering box. You can barely see it at the bottom of the photo. I was sure I had a better pic, but I don't. My truck isn't currently at my home right now so I can't take a better one.

Your truck is looking good! I plan on converting my steering as well with my 77 Highboy. I am focusing on my engine right now with my 434 build, but I am doing a little here and there with my frame. I have pulled the transfer case, transmission, and drive shafts. Was it difficult for you to buck all the rivets and use bolts?

Thanks. Wasn't too difficult, but definately is time consuming chiseling the rivets out and replacing with bolts. I am in the process of an engine build right now and my cab and front clip in the body shop. I should be in the stages of getting the engine, tranny and cab mounted in the next couple of months. Once that is done, my project will move much faster than it has in last couple of years. I wanna do it right the first time, so It is moving slow. In the end all good. The steering modification was a project I wanted done before I was ready for the motor and tranny. I didn't know how long it would take and what problems I might run in too. But it actually wasn't a bad project. It took a little bit to get the box in the right spot before the welding started and took some time to box in the front crossmember. All in all, it took about 4-5 hours total. It worked great. I have great clearance with the pitman arm and the tires turn all the way left and right to hit the "stops" and I was able to use the stock drag link with no modifications there.
