I have an automatic transmission on my way home today everything was working fine then all of a sudden while pulling out from a stop sign my truck would no longer shift at all.....I pulled off the road and then tried reverse....no reverse at all....the seedomoter was working fine...the OD light was blinking...did not overheat the tranny only around 170........any ideas????????
How many miles on your truck? Mine did the same thing at 101k. Unfortunatly it needed a new tranny.Hope yours is something else. Not sure if my o/d was blinking.I was 200 miles from home so I had other things on my mind, like what the heck do I do now?
Have you checked the electrical connections? There is the shift linkage connector on the drivers side of the trans and also another connector on the passenger side of the trans (hard to see, it is above the back corner of the pan). The first connection tells the transmission the position of the shift lever. The second is to the shift solenoids that control the shifting of the trans. There is a fuse that also ties all of the electronics together (19 or 20??).
When the OD light flashes a code is stored in the PCM's memory. The code will stay there for about a month even if the light stops flashing. Get the code read. Any diagnosis without the code is a waste of time.
The places that can read codes free can't read trans codes. You might have to go to a trans shop or a dealer.
Why did you start a new and identical thread on the same problem? Didn't you like and follow up on the answers given in your original version here? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/633234-transmission-help.html I'm still waiting to hear back on the items I suggested on that thread! Have you tried manual 1st and 2nd, and checked the connectors as I suggested?
SORRY FOR NOT LOOKING FOR SO LONG BUT i WAS OUT OF TOWN FOR WORK...
tORQUE CONVERTER SHOT AND TRANSMISSION TRASHED.......REBUILD AND NEW TORQUE CONVERTER IN PROGRESS...
My warrenty company is giving me hassle....no surprise......they are replacing all of my u-joints for free but will not touch the transmission.....does anyone have any ideas on how i can pressure them into covering the repair??????
Bummer! What reason did the insurance company give you for not touching the transmission? Was the insurance coverage FoMoCo? See this is why I didn't buy one for my truck, those SOB's know they hold the reins! B@st@rds! I purchased one for my 5th wheel and it expires in August 2008 and I have never had to use it, what a waist of money. I kinda hope something breaks so I can feel like I got my money's worth! No not really! I do have a Dometic refrigerator recall but that's another story. Sorry to hear about your transmission, hope you get back on the road soon...
hey casey.....I didn't ask why they shouldn't....if you could read I asked if anyone knew how I could pressure them....also they must show proof that the upgrades caused the damage....they are refusing to show proof....thanks everyone for your help and for all the ideas of what to look for......Casey...thanks for nothing.
