I just finished the carb swap on my 89 f150 and my headers are smoking and get very hot after only about a minute of running. There are no obvious leaks that would get any oil or coolant on the headers and there doesn't appear to be anything on the headers that is burning. Any suggestions as to what is happening?
just turn the dist CW a little while it's running...wont hurt a thing.
I have had a few start off on the retarded side while braking in the cam and the exhaust got cherry red, but I have an adjustable timing light. I get the motor up around 2500 to 3000 and set the light to 36 degrees and then bring the timing marks to 0 ASAP.... That puts the timing close enough to at least get the cam broke in..or not.
I messed with the timing a little earlier tonight and did exactly what you said, hemieater, and got the timing marks to zero. but instead of turning the dist. clockwise I had to turn it counter clockwise to get it to zero. What does this mean?
