Got started around 3:30 this afternoon. Let the truck cool after running a couple errands after lunch, but it wasn't quite as cool as I would've liked it. Started out just fine, got the return line cut with a mini-tubing cutter after taking the PS & Alt bracket loose, installed tee, then put it back together. So far so good. Start working on access to the port on the front passenger side, and I can't get the stinkin' belt tensioner off to save my life!! Ended up rounding the 13mm bolt off a bit and could never get it out. Made getting the plug out and the adapter & hose installation several orders of magnitude more difficult. I ended up taking all but one of the bolts out (the one you have to remove the tensioner for, obviously), and the other idler pully off (the one on top just above the tensioner), so I was able to rotate the whole bracket just enough to get access. I think it only moved maybe an inch. I ended up sneaking a 1/4" drive 1/4" 8 point socket on with a universal. Got it out finally, and managed to get the adapter in and hose connected after taking the engine cover braket off and burning the tops of my fingers & hand on the HPOP reservoir. Again,
The port in the back took me like 10 minutes total. The one in the front? An hour and a half. After that, got everything tightened up and turned the key. NO LEAKS!!!
Went ahead and started it up, and I really didn't hear much of a difference, so I let it run for a while I put all my tools away, then I shut 'er down and showered myself off. Went back out and started it back up and it really seemed quieter in the cab, so I went for a little drive, and that's when I *REALLY* noticed the difference. WOW!! Much quieter now!! VERY happy with the results!!
BTW, I ordered the kit last Saturday, and didn't hear anything about the order for almost a week. I dropped them a quick PM, and he said they were awaiting parts, but just got them in. They ended up overnighting the kit to me at no extra chanrge!!!! Kudos to Vegistroke/DFA for hooking me up!!! Very much appreciated!!
All I have left now is the in-tank mods, which I'll get to at some point. Headed back to work tomorrow, so I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I'm anxious to get that last part done, though!! After that is BTS VB & coolant filter........
Sweeeet. I am so glad it is not just me. I like to think I am mechanically adept, and I usually don't screw much up, but I might as well just go out with a hammer and hit my thumb, then drag my knucks across the concrete until they bleed to just get it out of the way. I just hate to wear mechanix gloves which would solve all of that.
Anyway, glad it is in. It's not called the CCK anymore is it?
Oh, and I never get in a hurry. I am meticulous and examine everything I take off. Takes forever. There are beers in there too. I consider it a hobby and don't like rushing through it. Then I might have to go mow the lawn or something else.
Congrats, Joe. As your hoses "mature" over the next several hundred miles and begin to "flex' a bit more with the pressure spikes, you're going to notice that your engine will reduce down to almost a deep-throated humming sound when running down the road. I found mine much smoother in audible sound after I'd put a couple hundred miles on it. BTW... I still have a kink in my driver side hose, too, that I haven't taken the time to untwist yet. I am seriosuly considering replacing that entire line with SS tubing... one day in my spare time I guess.
Is there a problem with a fuel leak since the lines aren't SS ?
I'm very curious about this mod.. but understand my early '99 is a bit more difficult. And I thought ITP was going to make this kit as well ? But I'm like Tenn, way to meticulous, sometimes for my own good.
Thanks......
I installed the first trial kit back in mid-March, no leaks at startup, no leaks since. The hose and fittings are all very high quality. No issues at all.
I am confused.. help me out.. the vegistroke website above calls it: ... High Pressure Oil Crossover: withoutWith (+30).
I thought this was for the fuel pressure.. not oil.
The CCk is on the fuel side, and Jason gives you a slight discount opportunity if you want to purchase the oil side crossover at the same time. He can provide both, and it's worth the effort to do both at the same time since you're already going to be on top of the engine anyway.

OK.. now I see..thanks.. I just might order just the fuel portion..(I already have the HXP line). I do have some #8 noise, even though Ford put in the long lead injector awhile back.

Yes, the early '99's take a little more work but not much. You have to grind a little clearence on the y-pipe on the driver's side.. but be carefull 'cause it don't take much. Use a dremel with a round grinding stone or a roto-zip like I did, they take the same bits. After a few weeks now, I have noticed a slight mpg increase and like others have said, it is quieter at cruise.
