Tire size

Need a little help with tire size. I am putting a 4" lift on my 03 F250 4x4. I have on order through a local shop a set of 315 75 16 tires will I have trouble with the front end rubbing? I have not paid for them yet and the lift will be here soon. The tire guy said it will be ok but I would like some more input.

You should be good with that tire size and a 4 inch lift. I recently switched from Super Swamper SSRs to Toyo Open Country M/Ts and the Toyos are 1000 percent better in every way. Tire noise is minimal for the aggressiveness of the tread, they are super smooth driving and took almost no weight to balance. If you haven't paid for you're tires yet I would seriously consider the Toyos.

The tires I went with are the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ Radials. They are not to aggresive and I kinda like the way they look. The good thing is my brother works for the shop and I can have them hold the tires untill we install the lift.

You'll be just fine. I had a set of 305's on a 2000 with no lift and they barely rubbed.

Yeah you'll be fine with that size. I'm running 36x15.5 Dick Cepek FCII's and at full turn left or right I get rubbing on the front spring. Those Mickey ATZ's are nice tires, more aggressive tread than some of the other all terrain tires. Post pics

I have 1 pic put in my gallery of the tires on my truck. I must say they are great. They look good and the don't make that humming noise like large aggressive tires do. Also all I had to do was trim that plastic at the bottom of the bumper and I have no rub at full turn.

Rusty, what gearing do you have in your truck? I put a 4" lift on had 315 on and have 373 grears. It seem to be just fine, but....I was running about 100 degrees hotter and I was into the boost a little more. I think 410 would help if running 315's

Rusty, Sorry for not being very clear. The temp gauge I was refering to was my exhaust temp. When driving around I will see around 600 degrees ( prob after turbo) and my boost around 5 pounds. When I put the 315s on I was at 700 and 6 or7 pounds. When I would need to drive up into the hills Well this is where I became concerned. I'm going to put a 6.0 inter cooler on soon see if it helps. Also thinking of water inj.

I wouldn't worry too much about the exhaust temp, you are loosing the torque advantage with the larger tires, therefore working harder to maintain speed. Going to 410 will bring some of the torque advantage pack. If you are going to tow anything on a regular basis, you'll definately want to go with the 410 or mabye even taller.

I don't understamd the reference between the 410 gear ratio and/or "taller". Could you please explain a little more.

Thanks
Doug

As you go up in the ratio 4:10, 4:30,4:88 ect.. it is taller you have more teeth on your ring gear.

Thanks Alan. So then the more teeth means a larger diameter (taller) gear. Do the taller gears fit in the same housing, or is a larger housing required. If so does it cause the truck to sit higher?
