Drip rail for a 78

My 78 F-100 has some major rust issues under the drip rail on the passengers side. I will have to completely replace drip rail. I looked in my LMC catalog and they dont have a replacement one listed. Any ideas where to get a new one or am I goint to have to fab one? I really dont want to have to do that if I can keep from it.

I have never seen anything for drip rail replacement. You're probably looking at cutting it off of another truck. An upside to this would be that you may be able to cut it out of various brands/years of trucks instead of looking for a 73-79 cab to ruin. Take some very stiff wire and bend it to the contour of your drip rail, then take that to the junk yard (or Wal-Mart parking lot--depending on what kind of person you are) and cut it out of the closest match. You'll probably be able to persuade it a little if its not an exact match. Even if you did find an aftermarket replacement kit, it wouldnt fit perfectly. Just a thought. Jake

No replacement is available because it's integral to the cab.

Yes..and no. The drip rails are inner and outer. The inner straight portion is part of the roof panel. The inner curved portion is part of the body side corner panel.

The outer portion of the drip rails were available as separate parts. The early printing of the 73/79 Ford truck parts catalog refers to the outer portions as mouldings, but then says "steel-paint to match." The later editions call them outer drip rails. (I have three parts catalog editions: 1st, 2nd, last)

The actual stainless mouldings for the drip rail are listed in the molding section, while the steel paint to match drip rails are listed in the body section.

The part numbers are different, as you can see:

D3TZ-1051700-B .. Right Drip Rail-Outer-Above Door (straight)

D3TZ-1051701-B .. Left Drip Rail-Outer-Above Door (straight)

D3TZ-10517C04-B .. Right Drip Rail-Outer Rear (curved)

D3TZ-10617C05-A .. Left Drip Rail-Outer Rear (curved)
================================================== ======
D3TZ-1051726-A .. Right Drip Rail Moulding (one piece)

D3TZ-1051727-A .. Left Drip Rail Moulding (one piece)

These drip rails are the same 1973/79 F100/350 Regular Cab & Crew Cab, but the CC's have an additional drip rail over the rear doors.

I called the Ford dealership and they cant get them anymore. I think I am going to try my hand at building a new set. That gives me a good reason to buy a shrinker/stretcher. I can get them close, any way you can only look at on side at a time, so if they are a little different it wont be that big a deal.

I see LMC has Drip Rail moldings. Whats the difference in the actual drip rail and the molding?

The drip rail is steel (part of the cab and roof as stated above) and the drip rail "molding" is a thin chrome trim piece that goes on top of the drip rail. -Ed
