The engine temp gets real hot in my F250 (400 motor w/4X4). But it only does it very temporarily. When I first crank the truck and let it run and warm up it gets VERY hot..but as soon as I drive the temp dips and stays normal through some traffic. It's almost random. Sometimes it gets really hot at a light, then at other times it's totally fine. I think one of my belts is slipping because I can hear it squeak sometimes under the hood when driving. Could this be a contributing factor?
My truck was doing the same thing, come to find out that i had bad bearings in my water pump, fan was wobblin all over the place. I flushed the antifreeze, replaced the water pump and hasn't done it since. Sit's below normal unless its fridgin HOT!
I would say if your hear sqauling under hood it could be belt slipping or bearings going bad,,as stated above...is the fan running at all?? flush your system how long sense anti been checked to see if its up too par.? thermost might be going bad??
My '83 had terrible maintenance for years before I got it. It would overheat like you say yours is doing. After replacing the temp sensor, thermostat, radiator, and fan clutch, it continued to mildly overheat. The problem? The impeller on the water pump had basically been eaten away by corrosion. New pump, and ZERO problems.

I had the same simptoms you are having right now. I replaced the pump, thermostat, Hoses, radiator, and fan! but my gauge still said I was seconds from boiling over. Put an after market gauge on it...........I run under 210 in 103 degree heat hot rodding my truck around town with the 4 barrel wide open!
