Differences in 302 oil dipstick
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I have a 1980 F150 with a basically dead 302. I found a 1979 302 for a good price. The only problem is the oil dipstick. The new engine has a front-sump pan, mine is a mid-sump. Since I'll have to swap in my mid-sump oil pan to clear the crossmember, the dipstick won't work. Has anyone figured out a solution to this? The price for the rplacement engine is really good & I'd like to use it.

The stick for the new engine is on the front of the engine while the stick for the current engine is mounted on the side. Swapping the oil pan is required to clear the crossmember, but the nre block doesn't have a provision for the side-mounted tube. Any idea how to get atound that?

try and find a truck pan with the dip in the pan...or you can drill the block for the dip ...there might be a boss on the block for it or maybe not. I made mine work using a truck 351W pan that had the dip in the pan, I just welded it onto the 302 pan....
