back in febuary when the truck was still relitivly new to me the rear drivers shackle went (kablammy) broke in half. now the perch has broke. i got the part from ford already and am replacing it after work with a few other guys tues. this slums as it is rivited into the frame. what kind of issues am i looking at facing.
Wish I could help I am out of state and can't take a look at mine but someone will be here soon. Good luck with the fix. What caused it to break? Any ideas? I have abused mine quite a bit and haven't heard of this hapening. Maybe it got weak because of the salt on your roads????????? Anyway good luck.
I torch then off the use an air hammer to puch the rest out of the frame. If you don't ahve a torch the drill is the way to go. Hardest part is getting your hand up in there behind the rear tank to get new bolts in there. Make sure you use Grade 8 bolts with good lock washer when you go back together. Rust makes them fail.
here is a pics on mine when I discovered it on my 95
the easiest thing to do is use a cut off wheel, cut an "X" into each rivet and then use an air hammer and they fall off, the cutt off wheel is must easier to use and faster than the drill and gets into the tighter spots easier too, been there done that, way too many times, there is actually a tsb from ford years ago for a clunk over bumps on the obs trucks and that is the fix, replace the rivets with bolts. its an easy fix, wont take you very long.
thanks guys, wasnt that bad me and a few guys from the shop wound up doing it after work today. wound up half drunk by the time we were done. will post pics when i get a chance. she was hanging by a thread.
