I got a 351W in my 83 F-250 project truck, what do you have to take off so there is no more emission stuff, cause when i am done, its gona be "older" with a 79 cab on it, so where i live it wont be required to have the emissions junk, and i am planning to modify it, by putting in a big torque cam, headers, 4 BBl intake, holly 650 CFM carb, and 4 inch stacks for less restricted exhaust flow, gear timing, and maby a few other things yet
If you put an aftermarket carb and manifold on, you won't have much smog left anyway. I would keep the charcoal canister, because it vents the gas tank. I thought the 80-up frame was wider than the 79-down?
it probally is, but its a project truck, and i can make something work, so i am not too worried about it, and if plans for the cab change, i am shure i can find another, i have connections here and there!
The EGR on mine is a plate that sits between the carb and intake. I removed the carbon cannister also and left the vent line open. The smog pump was the messiest and I believe you have air lines going from the smog pump to the back of the heads. You can remove the air pipes and get a plug from Ford (called an insert F4ZZ-6E086-A or H751B 021398) for the heads. Make sure all your vacuum sources are plugged as you remove the smog junk.
Hey Greywolf if you have the air pipes that go between the two heads and you are going to take them off I'd be happy to take them off your hands because I am replacing my 302 with a 351 and that is one of the parts I'm looking for. I have to pass sniffer test and that is one of the things they look for. Drop me an Email if u have them and want to work out a deal.
Pat
I have a brand new set of air pipes for the 351W that I never used. If you want them, let me have your address and I'll ship. I'd take the cost of shipping (probably $5-$10). I don't think I have the gaskets for them or the bolts that bolt them to the head.
