Lots of tape and paper. I think the biggest thing with those is prepping the box correctly so it sticks well. I think the spraying is almost a no brainer, keeping in mind that I am no expert. I would probably do a couple coats of the stuff.
You can do your box yourself, as long as you sand blast the box first. in the US, you can get applications that roll-on with a paint roller. But you have to make sure that everything is off the metal, otherwise the sh** wont stick. I have seen poorly prepped rhinoline flake off.
I just wonder about what it will look like using a brush and roller. In all the pictures they look good. Do they really look like that (looks as good as a spray in) or is it just some creative camera work.

Roll on is going to be thicker than spray on. But PREP is the key.

I have a brother that rolled on a gellcoat paint once on his pickup, wasn't worth anything else so he opted for the roll on, the pick up that is. Older brother worked repairing boats so gellcoat was free. It actually look excellent, kinda like the rock gaurd that use see on the lower side of some pickups. LOL Riding by on a horse you would never tell.LOL If you end up getting the diy kit I would save cost of the spray gun and roll on.

I don't know if you would get me on the horse so I will take your word. The roll on ones look really nice when they are shown of tv.
You can get a complete roll on kit by DupliColor at Crappytire for about $120. There is a Line-X dealer on Douglas Rd in Burnaby. Ask to speak to Lucas. $495 for a F-150 shortbox with lifetime guarantee. There is no comparison between the Line-X vs a DIY kit.
500 bucks isnt even all that bad. It would save your box a ton in the long run for that price.
Yeah for the work they do, it's well worth the money. They mask off the entire truck, scuff up the entire bed for adhesion, use piano wire on all the edges, and spray the coating on at 175degrees. I believe it's 1/8 on the sides, and a little thicker on the gate and rear 1/2 of the bed. The coating is slip resistant, unlike drop in bedliners. Anyone considering a spray on bedliner should just drop by and look at the trucks that they've sprayed. Last time I stopped by, Lucas said they do about 6-8 trucks/day.
