Hi everyone,
I have an 82 Bronco. The brake/stop lights do not come on. I have checked the bulbs they appear fine, as my directionals work and the running lights work too, so both elements light up. I have checked the break/stop light switch located above the brake pedal and it receives power, and when brake pedal is depressed the switch does its job and allows current to pass through.
BUT NO BRAKE/STOP LIGHTS?
Now I'm getting confused because my HAYNES Bronco repair manual, electrical wiring diagram tells me that the stop light and the directional light share the same wire (lt grn-org), and originates in the stearing column at the horn, cruise, directional & hazard switch.
OK am i overlooking the obvious?
Is there some relay or sensor that is not detailed in the HAYNES manual that distiguishes the differance between a stop signal and a directional signal in this shared wire?
Please Advise.
Thanks Matt
If he has a short, it would blow the fuse. He must have a 'long' or something open.
I've heard of problems with the turn signal switch internally causing problems like this. If the manual is correct, you should be able to see that wire feed to the turn signal switch and check for 12 volt there. Remove the steering column housing to see it. If you have 12 v there, and your turn signals work, then the problem is in the switch assy. Is your hazard lights on the column too? If so check to see if the hazards work. Again, that's if the manual is right. It probably is but I've seen differences in the Haynes manual to actual with my 89 van.
Thanks for all the tips thus far,
I do not have Hazards to the rear lights but I do have Hazards to the front lights. I have ordered a new turn/hazard switch assembly and should be in today I will install that, and with my fingers crossed, hope to get this truck on the road again.
Again Thanks for all the help and I'll let you know if it was that switch assembly in the column.
Matt
