i bought my 01 F-250 last year with 92000 on the odometer, now i have 109,000, and i was wondering that if i changed the fluid would i loose the trans since i dont know when the last time it was done.
Not sure what you mean by "lose" If you are saying that you will break it in some way.No.Go rite ahead change the trans fluid and filter. If anything it will last longer.
i have heard stories about changing the fluid and the trans would be fine at first then it wouldnt go into gear. i asked the local ford dealership and he told me not to change it because it would start slipping. cant keep it in there forever right?
the new fluid will have a tendacy to knock all the stuck crap loose in the tranny, this could cause stuck valves and such. it happend to me . tranny flush and two weeks later and a trip to the mountains and no more tranny. all of this is what the guy at the trans shop told me..I guess this is why you should keep regular service intervals.
thats what i was worried about, having something happen to the trans, plus i dont know when the last time it was changed . i want to keep regular sevice intervals but i need to start somewhere i guess?
Ive never heard that before.I geuss you learn something new everyday. It just seamed a little fishy coming from a dealer.Maybe I'm just to synical.Anyway I geuss it makes sence. So the recomendation is to keep up on your trans flushes. But what if you dont know the maintanace.I geus you just take a chance and hope for the best?

i guess the dealership deals with this stuff everyday, but just wanted to get some other opinions before i take the plunge. thanks for the help though.
bought mine with 108000 and no history. Sent in a tranny fluid analysis from Blackstone at around 150000 and it was pretty bad - lots of metals. Probably hadn't ever been changed. I got a flush from a BG dealer and installed new fluid. Took it home and changed filter myself. BG guy wanted another 50 to change filter. Anyway, tranny works like new. never had any trouble with it before flush either. Personaly, I think it will last longer if you get a good flush then maintain it regularly thereafter.
BG offers a good service IMO.
