351w and Auto trans donor
Well To add to my list of things to do, a friend just gave me a 1989 Bronco with a 351w and automatic transmission, no transfer case. The rig is not in good shape it has no headlights, grill, tail lights and most of the dash is gone. All I wanted was the engine and transmission, I don't know what transmission it has yet but I will soon as the wife says get that stinking thing out of here.
I wasn't really ready for another engine yet but the price was right. Let the disassembly begin.

So I got this reg in the shop today and started taking it a part. I am a little nervous as to how much stuff this thing has on it, vacuum lines all over and electrical connectors all over. How much of this stuff do I need to keep track of to put it back in my 69. I am not sure how I will keep track of the stuff, and how much of it I will reuse. There are electrical connectors plugged into things I can't identify, smog stuff I'm sure. How about the brackets for the AC, power steering, and Alternator will they be reused or not.
Wow!! Do I have lots of questions.

Tim, I'm assuming your going to run the the 89 efi system. I found it easier to start from the ECM forward. That way you know exactly what wires to keep and which wires stray off to things you don't need. Yep alot of vacuum lines but keep em all until you know which ones you'll delete. Label all of em. If you don't know the proper name just label a number/letter on both ends with masking tape and or take pictures b4 you seperate.

Well a little disappointment on my end. I finally got around to getting under the 89' only to find that it has a C6 auto transmission and not the AOD as I was hoping for. I also found out that I should not bother with the SD fuel injection and that I should go with MAF right from the start. Oh well for $20.00 I guess I don't have much room to complain.
Any thoughts about the SD injection verses the MAF injection? Also I am wondering what cars came with the stuff I need to go with MAF (computer, wiring harness and sensors)?

I'm not sure what year 5.8 trucks went to mass air but I think around 95. You still have other options if you are considering efi. B/C Broncos sells and adapter that mates the 5.0 upper intake to the 5.8 truck style lower intake. Then you can use a mass air set up from an 89-92 stang. Or you could try finding the upper intake from a wrecked Lighting with the 5.8. I believe those came out mass air but not sure. Or you could go carb for now and search ebay for a cheap intake and distributor.
