The seal on my compressor went out, so I am replacing the compressor the dryer and the orfice filter. My question is how much oil to add? I have access to an evacuator so the system will be completly empty. I have one can of Castrol Oil Charge that has 2 oz of oil and 2 oz of R134a is that enough oil?
Im with bosshoss, i do believe it is 8 onces of oil, but if u got a rebuilt compressor they usually come with some oil in them, in that case there will be a paper with it sayin if, and how much is in it, so that you do not over fill it.
I did find the info on a sticker under the hood (1997 F350 Powerstroke) 2lbs 6oz of R134a and 9oz of oil. The compressor I am installing is a new part from the parts store, the paper work says it only has assembly lube and I need to add the required amount of oil.

Then drain the assembly lube and add 6 oz to the system. There is at least 3 oz between the condenser and evaporator. This will get you as close as possible. The only way to tell for sure is to flush the system and add the recommended amount (9oz) back into it. The oil will pool in the major components like the cond. and evap. It's like guessing the amount of oil in your engine without a dipstick.
