Slow start P2284 code

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Excursion 6.0. I have a superchips microtuner that i have had on for a while now. Recentley it has been taking a bit longer to turn over when starting, whether its hot or cold. It then turned into a slow start, then a rough weird idle, then the code P2284. Injection Control Pressure sensor Circuit Range\Performance.

I returned it to stock and still had the slow starts, but no code after a week or so. Tuned it again, and after another week got the code again.
Is the sensor going out? Does it need to be replaced? Or does it have something to do with the Superchip?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Code P2284:
Default inferred ICP, ICP desired does not equal ICP signal, difference of 362psi/2.5mpa.

See diagnostic manual - ICP system.

Several things can cause a low pressure in the ICP system. You may have a Hpop leak, but without proper diagnostics it is hard to pinpoint the cause.

Also everytime you reflash your PCM, it clears the KAM and erases all codes. The codes will not reset until the truck is driven a sufficient amount to reset the code. When you take your truck in for the tech to run diagnostics, if you have recently cleared the KAM, he may not find any codes at which point he may tell you he cannot find a problem. So drive it until you get the codes to reset and then take it into the tech for diagnostics and repair.

Thats what i was trying to do, by driving it stock for a while but the code didnt come back for the week or so period i was driving it, and i was driving it everyday. But the slow start was still there.
So do you think the superchips has nothing to do with the problem? Maybe it just makes it happen a bit quicker?

Is there anything i can try before i take it to the dealer? Or do i just need to wait for the code to come back?

Thanks

The Superchips may have caused it to appear quicker do to the changed fuel strategy. You could try driving it hard in stock tune and see if that sets the code faster.

How long have you driven the truck with the Superchips installed and no problems?

Have you had your trucks PCM updated recently at your local Ford dealer?

Ive been driving with the superchips almost from the day i got it brand new. This is a new problem that popped up about 3 weeks ago.

I believe it has all the latest updates, it was just at the dealership about 5-6 months ago, for a EGR valve cleaning, and a new intercooler. I have had a new turbo installed as well but that was a little further back, maybe 8-9 months ago.

By the hard start I think it is an HPOP problem that the superchip magnifies because of the demand for more fuel or a different strategy which takes more oil. By returning to stock you killed the code and it may take longer for it to show back up with a stock tune. I may be totally off base here, but I'd leave it in the stock configuration and see if you get another code. If you still have the long crank rough idle to start then definitely take it in and let them take a look. How long a crank are you talking, by the way?

Yep i agree with Tim on this one, definitely sounds like a HPOP issue since you have run the Superchips for so long and have not had any recent dealer flashes.

First off thanks for the responses guys, thats why i love this place.

I had it back to stock for a week or so, and it was still slow to start, and when i say slow, it may not seem like much but its a good 10 seconds probably, and thats not normal. The rough idle came right before the CEL came on, but so far only when tuned. I guess im just going to have to deal with it being stock untill it comes back. Thanks guys.

10 seconds is an extremely long crank time that a tech should take notice of immediately. I would do the KAM clear procedure outlined by Ozx in this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...00-pounds.html and then drive it for a few days if you can stand it that long and then take it in. It may just be that the PCM has a headache and needs reset even though your tuner doesn't show anything. It's worth a shot for sure. Good luck and let us know if we can help further.
