Did the repair require you to evacuate the system and then refill after repair? This is on my list of things to pay someone to do...

Thats what I'm talkin' about. The refrigerant needs to be recovered, the repair made and the system pulled down into a vacuum. These are tools the average DIY'er doesn't have or know how to use. Hence the need for a qualified technician to do the repair.

Ok, he is still getting me the exact part numbers but we did replace the expansion valve in the back, the blend motor for the heat / cold (it stuck some when we were testing it), and the orifice tube up front. The main component was the expansion valve. It is behind the panel on the passanger side which if you take your time is not too bad to take off. Yes the system does need to be exacuated and recharged.

That is true and that is why I help my mechanic do it at his shop.

It's nice to have an ASE certified mechanic as a neighbor.

Excursion Rear AC Running Hot

I would love to hear the estimated cost to do this - to have this work done since I do not own the evacuation system, etc. This diagnosis makes sense - the front system evaporator keeps working because it has its own capillary tube. Or is it actually an expansion valve?

I just started having this problem TODAY. I cycled the rear temp **** (Rear Fan Control switch up front set to "Rear" control) to full hot, it got full hot really quick (it was 95° outside today in the subtropics of Louisiana). Cycled it back to full cold and it felt like just interior air being recirculated.

Thanks.

I might give them a call here - my local dealer is pretty good and get an estimate from them but I'll probably wind up going elsewhere for this job. Thanks for the $ figure. At least I know what I have to spend before our next trip with the yard apes in the back. My machine is letting me down in a few places. Rear AC. Unpredictable power window/radio relay energizing and the driver power window motor is dying a slow . Only 87K miles on this thing and it's acting like it is at 187K.
