1997 Expedition Transmission Problem
My 1997 Expedition E4OD Transmission shifts from 1st to 4th gear skipping 2nd and 3rd. When I switch off the OD it shifts fine. Of course without overdrive. Before this occured it was shifting fine. How do I fix it?

Ummm...not good news, it sounds like your torque converter lockout is going or gone. In that case the converter will need replacing. It could be something in the valvetrain, but it needs to be looked at. Doing that, take it to someone with a portable deep scanner that can monitor the shift pattern while it drives.

This is a very late reply, but I figured it might help someone. I took my truck to a repair shop and was told I needed a new transfercase shifter motor and the transmission rebuilt. With an estimate of $3700. I pick my Exp up took it home started doing more research on the internet. So, for $200 I replaced the shifter motor and another $25 for a speed sensor and it fixed it.
