I am replacing the VA module on my truck due to a leaky diaphragm. The replacement (D5AZ-132370-A) has an adjustment screw according to the paperwork that came with it, but I can't seem to tell if the existing unit has the adjustment capability. The question is how should I adjust the new one if I can't tell how the old one is adjusted? I hope this makes sense.
Thanks,
You need the distributor Specs for your vehicle. It probably has a D6TE-HA dizzy and the specs are 0 degrees at 6 in Hg and 28 degrees at 16 in Hg.
There should be an Allen wrench with the new unit. You put the Allen wrench through the vacuum port to adjust it. I put mine on the vehicle and started the thing up and using the timing light set the static timing at 10 degrees just to make the math easier. Use a calibrated vacuum pump and run it up to 6 in Hg you still should be at 10 degrees on the crank. Then crank the vacuum pump up to 16 in Hg. The crank damper should be at 38 degrees (28 + 10) If not put the Allen wrench in the vacuum port and start adjusting.
Your only other option is to take it to a shop and have them do it on a calibrated dizzy machine.
