Hi! I recently purchased a used 2002 F250 V10 65,000 miles. The exhaust flutter drives me crazy @ 1900-2100 rpms!!!! Is there anything that can be done about it bedsides put on headers??? I don't want to do that. I have it at the dealer now, I noticed in TSB that there is a replacement Y pipe for the 2000-2001 Excursion and F250. I am hoping that I qualify.... It seems like a silly design by Ford in how the pipe really narrows before entering the pipe before the converter. Looks like 3in coming out of the manifold to 1 1/2 at Y and back to 3 ?????? If the dealers can't fix..will taking it to an exhaust shop to have a new Y pipe fabricated mess up the computer??? Thanks for your help!
I doubt that a y pipe will cause issues with the computer. I would make sure they use a very sturdy piping, stainless of some sort. It is pretty hot up to the cats. Unfortunately I have never experienced the flutter to give you any further advice.
Thanks! It seems..according to some the postings that the "flutter" is harmless, just annoying to some. It really makes the truck sound bad @ shift points. Other than the gas mileage I really like the truck. I traded my 2002 F150 supercrew for it because I felt my 1/2 ton seemed to squat a little too much with the recent travel trailer that I bought earlier this year. Maybe it would have been better to add a leaf spring to my 1/2 ton or get my old camper back. The 5.4 had plenty of power to pull it. I must say there is a HUGE difference in pulling with a 3/4 ton vs 1/2 ton. No worries with the F250!!
