Talking Bypass filtration

Im thinking about adding a bypass oil filter system to my PSD but, not quite sure if its worth the money and if so what system is better????

It depends. If you want to extend oil changes, but do OAs every 5k or so, they're absolutely required. I just change my oil on a regular basis and call it good...

Thanks Izzy. If your not going to extend your oil changes, would it do a better job of removing contaminants than a regular system?

To a degree, yes. But, remember it only gets a small percentage off the main oil circulation, so ~90% of it goes through the main filter anyway. Maybe someone else will chime in, but I think if you're going to pay for the OAs every 5k, you might as well just change it and KNOW you have fresh, clean oil in there. I've been using Rotella Syn -- it's cheap enough that going an extra 1000 miles on it without worrying about an OA is good enough for me. I will do them occasionally, just to keep an eye on the engine, but not all the time. Some guys get 15-20k out of their oil -- but you pay like $30 a pop for the OAs, and I'm thinking you still change the main filter every 5k, which means you need another $10 filter plus two quarts of oil, plus you have to change the bypass filter, too. Not sure on the filter change schedule, but to me, it's just simpler to change the oil at 5 or 6k. Just my humble opinion.

do a little further researching, I know when I looked into these system I was reading through a bunch of guys UOA's and what I saw scared me so bad that I decided the bypass systems were never going to see my truck unless it was in the back on the way to the dump.
One of the things I noticed was the guys running them were showing increased wear metals over the guys not running them, also the TDN values were lower at 7000 miles with that system then mine are at 7500 miles without it, thus I am thinking the systems are actually filtering out the additives in the oil and that isn't a good idea. from everything I saw reading about them, unless your running in severe conditions I.E. desert in Iraq etc they aren't not only not worth the money but actually harmful to some degree, the normal driving the UOA's running without them were consistantly better at 5-7000 miles and the tdn were actually better and all this for increased cost.
