on my stepdads 01 ranger the oil pressure gauge doesn't come up right away when started up first thing in the morning, or after witting for a while. this happened to my 01 ranger and it was the sending unit so that is why i figure that is what is wrong with his. my question is where is this located on the motor? it is a 2.5 i think. it is a four banger with 8 spark plugs if that tells you anything. another thing can i get one from a auto parts store like autozone or advanced or do i have to go to the dealership? he will be all about going the cheap route. another thing is this hard to change?
thanks in advanced
It's simple. Sometimes they are a slightly odd shape for which parts places offer $8 sockets to remove. Skip on that, a typical 22MM (I think) socket will get the job done. Remove and replace, simple as that.
Today, I replaced my oil pressure sending unit with the version that transmits an indication of actual oil pressure. Used the thread in the tech info section and some personal coaching from Bob Ayers. NAPA P/N OP6091SB and it was <$10. It was simple to do.
