cuts out..no reason.!!

Hi....Am posting for a work collegue who hasn't got internet...

He's got a 95 F350 PSD dually...when driving, back off the throttle and it cuts out..turns over ok...starts eventually..but blows white smoke for a few seconds..then ok for miles.....then it'll cut out again.same thing...starts after a bit....white smoke.........dosn't happen all the time.....just now and then....He's recently changed fuel filter, checked lines etc...all seem ok.........Could part of the problem be bio..?....A lot of the service stations here run 5% bio.......Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks.... Chris.....

it could be the CPS or burnt wiring harness under the valve cover.

from what I understand about quick diognosting the CPS is "If the tachometer does not move when cranking then the CPS is bad" Is this correct?

Some times... If the engine dies and willl not restart. First thing to check is tach.

Sometimes they just cut in and out though from what I understand. Mine has been starting to show CPS symptoms but hasn't completly died yet. Knock on wood.

oh sorry Erl_berner I was talking to the OP. Your issue are more than likely Glow plug related. Try plugging in the block heater and see if it helps. I know your in Cali but it still could be.

I think you are thinking of the speed sensor in the rear diff. When the tach and speedo start acting up it is the speed sensor.

if you have a crank no start concern that is when the tach method is used, its the same as watching the "rpm" pid on the scanner
