I am having a hard start issue. And after searching decided to change the fuel filter.
Where is it? and anything special to do while changing it?
Thanks
Doug
Please help us. I'm ready to do the same on my 03. Now I'm waiting to hear if there is a special tool or something before I do it. By the way where was the filter located?
any parts house, there are a couple of types, I like the metal one that has two sizes on at each end, but they also have plastic ones that work ok, check the napa or parts am. web site napa # SER 3321 also make sure to relieve your fuel pressure before you take filter off so you don`t get a face full of gas
put the tool over the line, push in on the line slide the tool in twist a little and pull on the line while pushing the tool toward the filter, sometimes it`s easy sometimes it`s a *&%$@$^
The filter is on the driver's side, about half way (under the piller between the two doors). As someone said above, it is under a plastic cover, looks like it is part of the fuel tank.
You can reliev the pressure by pressing the Schrader valve on the fuel rail in the engine bay (psgr side, I think). Put a rag around it to soak up a little fuel that will come out when push in the valve.
As for the filter, the hardest part is getting the stupid cover off. After that, you will see blue plastic clips that look like they can be squeezed, which they can. Jus squeeze 'em and slip the fuel line off. There are two lines coming out of the filter, and one coming in.
Easiest filter you will ever change. Now for that stupid cover......
Totally agree with waterman. I finally got pissed at my cover and yanked it off. Going back on was considerably more af a pain in the A$$. Fingers worked great for that "special tool".
Yep, the special tool, as others have said : fingers.
Truely one of the easiest fuel filter changes I have ever done.
Left my truck overnight, only fuel in there was what was in the filter.
The trick, if any, is to press right in the centre of the clip and gently pull the line off the filter. Easy peasey.

If you don't have the luxury of waiting overnight, start the engine and then remove the fuel pump relay from the under-hood fuse box. Once the engine starves for fuel and dies turn the key off and change the filter. The pressure will be all gone. After the new filter is in, reinstall the relay and start it up.
