Metal Shavings in Fuel Filter?

Ok, I just changed the fuel filters in my truck today and found metal shavings in the fuel filter. What could be causing this and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks for the help!

ford is proud of thier aluminized diesel fuel tank, but i'm not impressed. i just spent
1700.00 repairing my 2003 f550 because the aluminum coating inside the tank
was breaking down and letting rust form. the fuel filter not only had rust in it, it had flakes of aluminum coating, it looks like metal shavings. drop your fuel tank, pull the fuel pump, and rub your hand on the inside top of your tank. let me know.

I had a few in mine the first couple of times I changed my fuel filters, but haven't had any since. Mine is an 04 and has a plastic tank. If it was just a few flakes I wouldn't worry as it could be from lines, sending unit, etc. If it was a significant amount then I'd worry.

Nope, F250/F350 SD have plastic fuel tanks with no coatings inside. The F450/F550 CC and E250/E350 have metal tanks.

changed my primary filter, the one thats underneath the truck. And found some shavings that look aluminum. Truck has 30,000 miles and this is the 2nd time I replaced the filter. But this is the first time I noticed metal shavings. Not bad but it is something I'm concerned about.

I had rust looking gunk when i change the lower filter. wiped what i could out and the rest went into drain hole. My water in fuel light kept coming on, so i had to drain the hfcm while probing a screwdriver in the hole to help particles move. Did this four times before it cleared up

so far as I know all aft axel tanks are metal. there are a few 350 with a side mount metal tank but Ive only seen 2 of them so they are rare.
