All I need to do is sandblast the backside and a bit more wire wheel and it should be ready for paint. I am never doing another diamondplate bumper. Grinding on it sucks, like 3 hours worth.... take my word for it!
I have over 100 hours in the bumper. Even at $10/hr thats $1000. With various on line vendors who make bumpers for these series trucks, they average about that much, let alone the quad inset lights, grille gaurd and light tabs, and a lot of them are using cnc and laser cutting computers for their parts. I think broncoair bumpers said he has about 30 hours into one....
I'll start at $0 with my reserve at or around $500 depending on how much supplies was. I am really hoping I get what I put into it.
I know it will take a verticle load pretty well, but when you side load them there is no form of gusseting to stabilize them... that was my only concern. But for most people, it would never see anything like that.
I was thinking about putting 1/2x1/2" bar on the back but I think think it would be necessary. On my other bumper I wrapped the outside with some bar. I think I will be doing that to future bumpers. Gives it a beefier looks anyways..
Do you have a buddy w/ a 1980 - 1986 Ford Truck that needs a bumper built for him, you should try to do these trucks too, if you dont mind? But then again, i might be causing a "stink".
I personally like the bumper....andI'mgoing under the assumption that you fabricated it with a MIG...good it'll give me something to go off of...I just bought an old Duece-N-A-Half PTO winch for my bronco....your creation will gimme something to go off of......Gonna be tight squeezin but.....sweet I like it....Now I gotta build one...once I get my Bronc runnin ...good job...good creativity.
yes, mig. If your going to put a winch in, make the middle part of the bumper deeper and taller. Then taper off to however short your want the sides. Either that or you can cut a hole in the top part of the bumper for some of the winch to stick out..
I'll probly mount it in the back half of the Bronc....something different...n WAY too much weight for the front.......I'll take some pics of the mess of a bumper the winch came mounted on and post em on my Bronc's gallery......
