What do you think?

Hey guys got a question,

Im considering buying a 2000 f250. It has the 7.3 with 100k on it. The owner has tricked out the truck with a small lift, wheels, extra fuel tanks, t.v.'s, new tranny, new wheels and a 2005 front end. It is a crew cab 4x4. My question is i am considering purchasing it for $20,000. It is worth it. ALso what kinda longevity should i expect out of a 7.3 with a chip in it. Thanks guys!

if he didnt beet the crap out of it, , and if you keep up with maintnance you might get 500000 or more who knows, but 100000 that motor is just broken in, and plus you get all the toys you dont have to buy for it,
have it scaned by somone with GOOD scaner, or by the dealer, and you can have OASIS report dont by dealer or somone here, you going to need VIN#, it will tell you what was done to the truck ,

good luck

FWIW, I paid 21k for my bone stock 2WD 2002 CC SB with 60k on it. If it's in good shape, I think it's okay. I wouldn't go any more than that, for sure...

Still will depend on the condition of the truck, what the OASIS report tells you, if the mods look like they were installed with care etc. You can pull an baseline value from KBB or some other online vehicle report but with the mods, you have to guess the additional value.

Like Pete said, at least he started you with some toys...

is it being sold at a FORD dealership or independant?
get the VIN, buy a CAR FAX report and get a FREE OASIS report from the FORD dealership

good luck
post a link to the vehicle and post some pics of it
take it to a reputable mechanic

I paid 17,500 for my f250 club cab 4x4 almost 2 years ago bone stock. Its a lariat with all the goodies and had 62,000 miles. It took me 6 months to find the right one. If you know the person who owned it and it has quality upgrades who knows. I always liked to start stock and add my own stuff but thats just me. Like the others have said, do some research on the truck and see if it comes back clean.

Sounds fishy to me. Seems like the guy really likes to mess with his diesel (which is a good thing). You should definetely do a car fax report and make sure he didn't do the front end conversion because of an accident. Find out why there is a new tranny too. If the truck is in perfect condition then maybe $20k is fair. It's more than I'd pay though. Keep looking, CC's are common.

Well, here in MD the price for a truck like that would easily be in the $22-24K range with that mileage if it doesn't have leather, so I would say go for it. I got my 2003 CC 4x4 Lariat for $28K a month and a half ago with 65K miles from an independant dealership. They were asking $29,900 for it.
