Guys, I have a 99.5 F350 7.3L and it wont crank. This is the third time this has happened. The truck runs perfectly, but when I get to where I'm going and shut the truck off it won't restart. When I try to start it the cluster comes on fine and all the relays and pump cycles just like normal, but it won't crank. No clicking noises, absolutely nothing. The past two times this has happened I stoped trying after many attempts and left the truck for several hours. When I came back it started on the first attempt. This time however it won't start, I let it set overnight and still nothing. The batteries are good. All cables and connections look clean and tight. I took the harness connector off the neutral safety switch and don't see any signs of corrosion. Can anyone give me pointers to start isolating? How to bypass the ignition switch? How to bypass the neutral safety switch? Any other ideas. Would unplugging / reconnecting the ECM do anything? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried jumping the solenoid? jump the two posts on the solenoid located on the passenger side fender. If it turns over, you have found the problem.
If it's a standard, I would check the clutch switch. If it's an auto, I would pull the covers off the column and check that three wire loom coming from the shifter. Those have a bad habit of chaifing and shorting out. Try jiggling the shifter when the key is turned to start.
