I pulled a really good one over the weekend. I was trying to rehang the spare tire on my wife's suv. The chain hanger is full of rust. I had the lug wrench on the bar that turns the chain hanger. I was pulling on the wrench and it came loose and it hit me right in middle of the forehead. I closed my eyes and let out a few choice words from my Navy days. I put my hand on my forehead. When I opened my eyes, there was blood on my hand. I stood up and the blood started oozing down my forehead. I took my tshirt off and put it against my head and called my wife who was upstairs. Luckily, she's a great ER nurse. I sat down and told her I was feeling faint. She came over to me and held my head up. I went from passing out to a seizure. My wife was yelling my name to get me out of it. I awoke to her tears and my kids standing next to me. The kids were crying, and my wife was telling me she loved me. I passed out one more time. I awoke again and I she was dialing 911. A few minutes later my neighbor came over, he's the fire chief. The ambulance came and a few local firemen came to help. One of the assistant scoutmasters and his son from my son's Boy Scout troop carried me out to the ambulance. I really understand a scout is helpful now.
I spent Saturday in the hospital and was sent home Sunday. I have to have an eeg to make sure i have a brain. Not sure about that one.
I had a scary accident happen, and I was lucky, i have a wife thats a nurse. The nuerologist said it's not uncommon to have a seizure with a head injury. Be careful out there and don't use your head to stop a wrench...

A friend was removing one of the springs from a set of drum brakes with a screwdriver, it slipped off and went about an inch and a half into his left eyeball. Guess who doesn't work on his own cars any more?? Glad you're ok!
I figure over the years I have donated about a 1/2 gallon of blood and a few brain cells to the old truck hobby, I have a few scars to prove it. Accidents only take a nano second to happen and they are not usually planned or they would be called "purposidents".
In my years turning wrenches, I have pulled a few of those Uh Ohs myself, Have a few scars to show for it. Probably the worst was when I rolled under a Lincoln Town Car that was only supported by a floor jack only to have the seal give out and the car push me through the creeper. Good thing the owner of the shop walkied in at the time that the jack came down. I only had a big bruise on my chest, but If he hadn't gotten it off of me, I would have died there.
We get careless sometimes, and it takes a serious injury or a real close call to open our eyes to the fact that we are not indestructable.
All I can say is OUCH.. I mean personally I have knocked myself out working on my truck (make sure you roll the creeper completely out from under the truck before trying to sit up.. frame rails don't have much give to them).. but your injury beats that out. Glad to hear your alright
I got a good one too. About two months ago I was changing the brakes on my wife's car. I was being lazy and using hand tools when I should have been using power tools. Well, I was trying to loosen a bolt that held the caliper in place when the socket wrench slipped and headed straight for my left eye. I wear glasses and wasn't wearing any other "commercial" eye protection. Not only did the butt of the wrench went into my eye, but also my glasses. I literally felt the butt end of the wrench in between my eye and the top of the eye socket.
My eye swelled up immediately to the size of a peach. I thought that I lost my eye or partial eye sight. My wife took me to the ER immediately. I spent 4 hours in the ER. Had a CT scan that was negative. By the time I left the hospital, the eye was turning into a bruise and the swelling has slightly gone down. The next day, it was black and blue, but I was able to open my partially. I finished the brakes, with power tools, that same day.
Two weeks later and my eye returned to its normal shape. From now on, I wear a face shield whenever I work with any tools.
I`m glad everyone survived.
The worst I`ve done is to repeatedly burn myself, time and time again either by touching hot metal I`ve welded or getting too close to a torch.....
Guys,
Thanks for your well wishes. I have an eeg today. I'm sure someone at work will be giving me a logger's helmet to wear when changing tires. Glad to hear everyone else is ok.
Jeff
