OK, I just got my B&W turnover model 1108R, I have a 03 CC short bed 4X4, and the instructions with the kit have a ball placement for both long and short bed trucks of 47" from the tail gate, I had been looking at these hitches and thought I would get a model 1105R which has two different options for placement one being 46" and one 49" (long bed only). My question is will I notice the 1" shorter distance between the cab and trailer or not? I'm mainly going to be pulling a standard Goose-neck flat bed but may go with an enclosed or even have to pull a large enclosed horse trailer with the living quarters in front. The best I can tell is that if I were to slide the side plates and rails back 1" I could just drill new holes in the side plates, not sure if it would be worth it or not.
I think the different options on the long bed model install have to do with a rear sway bar. I have a B&W in my long bed that the dealer installed in the wrong spot and if the ball is upside down it hits the sway bar over large bumps and dips. I don't know which model B&W I have, but I can tell you from the amount of metal rubbed off each piece that the sway bar is tougher than the ball.
Most of the time I won't be but i may every now and then, I just don't want to get the ball location to far back. I've always heard no less than 2" in front of the rear axle center line. The hitch if installed in the factory holes would be 3-3/4 in front of the center line so I could possibly move it back a 1-3/4" if the 2" rule is good.
