Gooseneck hitch kit ball size

I realize that I am opening myself up to a lot of double entendre replies by asking about ball size but I am going to ask anyway!

I have just ordered a 2015 F350 dually with the Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package and the Gooseneck Hitch Kit. The build sheet the dealer gave me after building my truck online does not indicate what ball size comes with the Gooseneck Hitch Kit. However when I use the Ford web tool to build the same configuration as my new F350 the detailed description for the Gooseneck Hitch Kit says it includes the 3" diameter ball and the safety chains.

I need the 2-5/16" gooseneck ball to tow my fifth wheel travel trailer so after seeing the web tool description I asked the dealer to order that ball so I would have it. They are now telling me that they have checked and in fact the Gooseneck Hitch Kit comes with the 2-5/16" ball and not the 3" ball. To add to the confusion there is a video on YouTube of the 2015 F350/F450 press launch in Virginia in which a Ford spokesperson says that the Gooseneck Hitch Kit comes with both ball sizes. Can someone who has ordered the Gooseneck Hitch Kit confirm what size ball you received with your truck?

I have a tight schedule to receive my truck in time to pick up my fifth wheel trailer on April 2 and don't want to find out at the last minute that I have the wrong sized ball and then have to wait for the correct one to arrive.

Regards,

Lauren

The Ford Hitch Prep does NOT come with any goose neck *****. You have to buy it or order it separately. You have to add the option for the goose neck ball to your order to receive it with the truck.

Ford Goose Neck Kit

You can go to Reese website and get the part number for a 3" ball. They also have 2 5/16" ball with a higher height.

Reese - Elite Series Gooseneck

Reese 2 5/16" standard height ball kits

Reese 3" ***** on ebay

reese 19314 | eBay

Reese 2 5/16" ball with 1" rise....ball only

You didn't understand my post Larry. I have ordered BOTH the Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package AND the Gooseneck Hitch Kit.

The Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package gives you the under bed hitch, the holes in the floor and the 7 pin connector in the drivers side rear corner of the box.

The Gooseneck Hitch Kit is a bag that includes a ball and two safety chains you can attach to your trailer because unlike a fifth wheel hitch some jurisdictions require chains on a gooseneck trailer. I am trying to find out what size ball comes in this kit.

I know I can order the ***** from Reese but I don't want to spend $200 on a ball I don't need if a 2-5/16" ball comes in the kit.

Regards,

Lauren

The Gooseneck hitch Kit (Order code 15J) available for F-250/F-350 only comes with the 2 5/16" ball and the safety chain tie-down bars and carry pouch,

The Gooseneck DUAL Hitch ( Order code 15E) only available on the F-450 includes (1) 2 5/16 ball (1) 3" ball and the two safety chain tie-down bars and carry pouch.

That explains why on the one video I saw the Ford representative said that both ***** came with the kit.

Thanks again Painted Horse.

Don't forget to break in your truck before towing, I believe it's 500 miles. It's in the manual. Have fun with the new truck.

I have the F350 kit for my 2015 that I bought from my Ford parts dealer with the 2-5/16 ball, chain mounts brackets (not actual chains) and the carry bag. It also includes the plastic hole covers and trim pieces. Nice kit. Reasonable price. Works great and easy to use once I figured out how the plastic trim pieces install in/around the holes.
