My 02 5.4 developed a high idle condition so I replaced the idle control valve and everything was fine for about a week. Yesterday as the truck warmed up it started to search and then the idle shot up to 2500rpm and stayed there. Last night, I disconnected the battery to try and reset the computer. Started it up this afternoon and it searched for awhile and as it warmed up the idle went right back to 2500rpm and won't come back down. No vac leaks. It seems like the computer is doing its' thing and I suspect its getting a bad input from a sensor, there any other sensor that can cause this? This is really getting on my nerves........Any other idea's ?????
Thanks
Dave

I have seen a similar problem when a ground to the computer was loose.
Try pulling it out (of the air intake system) and cleaning it with non-electrical contact cleaner. Unplug your battery again to let the computer reset. There is a write up about it in the F150 section ('99 - '03 I think).

Thanks for the replies.
I cleaned the MAF tonight and I've done the reset several times. After searching for a while it will always reverts back to the 2000-2500rpm idle. Another funny thing is that when I turn off the engine at a certain RPM, say 1200 I'll get a different RPM at start up like 750 ....it just won't stabilize
I'm wondering....My battery's eye is not showing all green, could a low battery cause this problem or is the computer the problem?
I'll have to check the grounds, where is the computer located?
