Well, I would say if you live on pavement and stay mostly on-road, then the sleeve is perhaps how you might want to go. On the other hand, if you live out in dusty areas (like dirt roads as I do), I'd put the AIS in and then do the zoodad mod.

I did not get the fender sleeve with mine because it already has much improved air flow over the stock box and with the added Zoodad Mod. I thought it best to try and keep the filter medium clear of debris that I would have picked up from the fender well. Just my 2pennies

I'll second Neal's advice above.

I don't offroad, and I never (or haven't yet) done any time on dirt roads,
so the fender sleeve seemed right for me. Besides.....if I ever want to NOT do the fender sleeve anymore, all I have to do is glue / re-attach the round part of the air box back inside the hole I drilled out. Viola! One intact AIS, ready for action.

FWIW, I have not experienced any bad discoloration of the element from my fender sleeve opening up into the fender. I think some folks may get the impression that you actually open up a big hole right into the wheel well and can basically look right into the filter media when you go with a fender sleeve.

(By the way, I'm not referencing anybody else specifically, I've seen it mentioned on several occasions on a couple different forums.)

I installed AIS about 1 1/2 years ago, I repeatedly had to reset filter minder, I purchased sleeve this spring and have not had to reset since, I don't know why I had problems because my truck is bone stock, I don't drive on dirt roads much either.

just my 2 cents, good luck, ais is a quality product

I've read that someone had this issue with their AIS and then removed some of the rubber at the core support and now has no issues with filter minder. I've tried to get mind to trip but with the Zoodad Mod I can't make it happen.

I agree. I have the AIS with the fender sleeve and since I spend 95% of my time on the road and the other 5% on dirt roads, hay fields and the beach I figure that I should be OK with it pulling air from fender. Now if the percentage was 50/50 I might have thought twice about putting in the fender sleeve.

Like MikeSDK said if you don't like it you can always glue the plastic back on.

That was me...I just expanded the hole in the rubber mat about an 1/8" all the way around the opening in the header for the zoodad mod (so it is an 1/8" larger hole through the mat than there is in the header panel). It has never tripped since.

AIS, Fender sleeve, Zoodad. It all works for me.
Going on a year now, no complaints.

How long are the filter mediums lasting? Mine has been in now for about two months and @ 75.00ea. I hope it will last for at least 18 months. What do you guys think?

I have read that the filter element will last anywhere between 10K and 30K depending on how dusty it is where you drive most of the time.

It will last way beyond 30K, in most conditions. I live in extremely dusty conditions and do a lot of back country hauling to mine and I have 30K on my filter and it pulls the filterminder down maybe 20%. I take the filter out every month or two and tap out the dirt and clean out the bottom of the airbox (a layer of sand every time). The replacement filter can be had for under $70 with free shipping from one of our sponsors (Wabash?), right around Christmas.

I just installed my AIS and I noticed a small amount of rubber overlaped the front of the intake. I trimed the rubber and have had no problems with the filter minder tripping, actually it hasn't moved at all.
