truck pulls are on tuesday and i beleive im the only person around here who has a dp tuner and was wondering what settings to run it in and how goor or bad it will do. Around here we have a few dirtymaxs pulling and a few newer and older ford and dodges also. Also would it be a good idea to let tire pressure out of the rear tires for better traction
EGT's are going to skyrocket so I would try the 40 tow first and keep an eye on the gauge. several pullers will spike at around 1500* for a brief second or two but you dont want to hold that temp for long at all.
FWIW, I'd keep all the pressure you can in the rears and let the fronts down. I'm going to try to pull mine in later this month and in September, never pulled with a Diesel before, only gassers.
i pulled mine a few months ago and ran in 120. EGTs didnt get over 1200. my gear selection was a different story. i ran in 4L, drive w/ the OD locked out thinking id just let it shift itself. it hunted gears real bad and i ended up pullin it into second half way threw the pull. anyway it didnt go well. maybe next year
i didnt try 4L and 1st... i think it woulda been spinnin it a little high in first, but i think if a guy just stuck it in 4L and second you would be good to go. and yes it did smoke out alot. i must have been the only one w/ any sorta chip because i was the only diesel that made smoke(it made the crowd happy)
they didnt speed limit us on the 4x4 pickups... i dont know if i got over that or not. i would bet i didnt. it just seems to me that a guy would be wrapin a little high and maybe not hook up as well in first. but i have no pulling experiance at all. in the mud tracks i race my other rigs in we tend to run a little lower gears to hook up as opposed to just throwin a ton of mud and gettin nowere. just my .02
