97 F350 PSD dually auto

-I have an extra CPS, where is it located exactly on the engine?
-Can I disconnect neg. barttery cables then the starter to reach block plug?
-Does starter just come right off with removal of the three bolts?
-What is this lever under my truck next to transmission?
-What kind of power steering fluid do I need to use?
-What is best way to drain current power steering fluid?

Thats enough for now, Thanks!

Well I think I can help with some

1. Cps is no the left side of the engine front facing the engine. Its all the way down by the crankshaft. It might be easier to see it from under the truck. It will have a piece of metal that goes over the damper wheel
2.I'm not sure what you mean by block plug for oil, coolant or what?
3. Those should be the only bolts holding it on, but you of couse have to disconnect the wires to get it out.
4. I think you maybe seeing the gear select lever or are you looking at something that goes to the tranfer case.
5. I run syenthetic PS fluid, but I'm not sure the acutal Specs called for
6. Last I'm not sure unless you want to just drain the fluid in the reserve bottle or the entire system?

Cps is right near the Crank pulley at about the 10 o'clock position. 10mm bolt holding it on. It would be a good idea to pull the bolt and sensor just to make sure that when your one the road and its raining that everythign will come out nicely. anti seize the bolt and lube the sensor with oil.

-Can I disconnect neg. barttery cables then the starter to reach block plug?
Disconnecting the neg cable will keep you from welding when working near the starter
-Does starter just come right off with removal of the three bolts?
yes three bolts and the cables and the starter is off
-What is this lever under my truck next to transmission?
Could be the 4wd lever??
-What kind of power steering fluid do I need to use?
ATF or powersteering fluid. They mix well so either one
-What is best way to drain current power steering fluid?
best way is to suck the reservior dry then fill with new fluid after pulling the return line off and letting it drain into a bucket. have a helper Start the truck up while you add fluid to keep it full. once its looks good shut the truck off. reconnect the hose and top off.
Thats enough for now, Thanks!

I've still got so much I want to do to this truck and I just need to decide what is most important to least important and go down the list. The transmission was rebuilt less than 15K miles ago and the fluid is the correct Mercon(spelling) and is clear/fresh looking. I guess I will leave it for now and put a good tranny cooler on it. What about an oil cooler? Should I do that as well? When I change oil should I go with synthetic oil? It has Rotella 15W40 and has been running that for a while now. The current batch has about 1500 miles on it and looks good as well.

Also, when installing a tranny cooler should I do that when I'm flushing/changing the coolant?

Decisions, decisions

No need to do the tranny cooler at the same time as the coolant. As for oil Both Rotella 15w40 and the 5W40 syn are good oils. I have just finished off a 10,000 mile run of 5w40 and have switched back to 15w40. I was using too much oil at $4 a quart. i am going back to 15w40 and running 5,000 miles. The synthetic is much more money.

When putting in new tranny cooler do you leave the old or remove it and replace with new? Don't you have to disconnect some coolant hoses to do this?

Take out the old and in with the new. No you just have to unhook the tranny cooler lines not coolant lines.

What is in the tranny cooler lines? Should I expect fluid to come out?

There is just tranny fluid running though them. you will get some coming out when you pull the lines. it will just dribble out though unless you start the truck

For the record, it's best to not use auto trans fluid in steering systems. Specialized power steering equipment builders say that is a big no no. They also say that normal PS fluid is just fine unless you are having heat problems. I run Redline synthetic in the rock buggy, but regular fluid in everything else. One nice thing about synthetic PS fluid is that it's not very expensive because you don't use much. A quart of Redline is $4. It can't hurt in our PSD's if we tow and do a lot of tight manuevering while parking, otherwise there's no need.

Yes that STP will be fine. I don't think it holds any more than 2 quarts. But having 3 would be best just in case.
