Update on noise when towing

well i was getting a wierd noise 65 or so overdrive 40 tow boost 15-19 approx rpms 18-1900. if i tow overdrive and 75mph i wont get the odd sounding noise anymore. rpms are around 2200 there. but i hate towing that fast much nicer around 65-67.

im assuming its to do with the turbo, possibly surge i guess no boost movement on the gauge though. wheel looks great and shaft is also tight.

Is your 40 tow a DP? Give some more description of the noise, is it boost related? I recently switched to 40/60 tow DP and detected a new noise, that I'm thinking is from the air inlet system due to enhanced air flow from the DP tune. I was concerned enough to pull my intake and check the turbo bearing, and reassemble the intake to make sure everything was good and tight. My new noise sounds like high speed air flow whistling through the intake/turbo. If I switch to stock tune, I can just barely get a hint of this noise at WOT and high boost, but with the DP, I get it much louder and at intermediate throttle settings and boost as well.

yes DP my sound is at first a ticking sounds like pinging on a gasser so i had jody turn the timing down at that rpm but it made my power go away and still made noise so i had him put it back the way it was. (jody says injectors emptying fuel) then turns into almost i guess like a chirping very touchy when it will make the chirping noise. if im in stock i have no noises what so ever. tried 60 tow but over the hills egts just get to high for me

This thread is causing me depression and thoughts of suicide. No not really but, my RV is in it's happy place on the banks of the Mighty Ohio River and I won't be moving it until Holloween. So I won't know if I will experience this with my 60tow until the fall.

My injectors definitely make a different noise with the DP tunes, although they're all the same and uniform in this noise, and it doesn't sound alarming or harmful. I also have to watch the EGT when I run 60 tow, and after experimenting with it awhile, I now only use it on the interstate if my right foot gets tired. My cruise control has never worked well when towing (it causes surging by adding too much throttle, then letting off, and back on again, etc...), and with the 60 tow I just have to rest my foot on the throttle to maintain 65 mph. So far, I've got several K miles towing with the DP and I like it much better than my 70 HP Superchip.

I used to having chirping with my Superchip and K&N Aircharger cone air filter when towing grades, and it finally ate my turbo bearings and then the turbine touched the case and chiped some blades, and then it sounded just like a police siren above 10 psi boost.
