tool box liner

i need to find something to line the inside of my tool box with. i have a transferflow tool box fuel tank combo and dont like the thought of a heavy jack and tools banging around. i also dont want to hear any banging either. soo what does everyone recommend?

you could have it sprayed with Line-X (if you don't mind the cost.)

I put some old carpet in mine, I've had the same toolbox with the same carpet liner for 6 years now. It's great, nothing slides around and no noise at all.

the linex is a good idea but might be a little expensive. they will also need to be careful not to cover the sending unit and wires.
i might try the carpet idea.
i am still kicking around using dyna mat or something simular.

Yeah, some type of rubber mat would work great. When I did mine we had just finished recarpeting our house, so I had some laying around.

Check Lowes home improvement store. I have seen rubber liners for roll around tool boxes there.

I picked up a couple of thick anti-fatigue mats at Home Depot - the ones made out of closed cell foam rubber with country scenes printed on them. A pair of scissors and a couple of tubes of weatherstrip cement was all it took.

I don't think the dynamat would hold up to the abuse inside a toolbox. Line X might protect it but will probably not help the noise if that concerns you. A rubber mat like the anit-fatigue mats or rubber conveyor belting, or even a horse mat from a local tractor supply store or feed store should offer protection and quiet things down.

I got tired of small stuff sliding from end to end in the box, so I went to an office supply house and bought 4 crates. I then went to the hardware store and bought a pile of rubber stoppers and some brass tubing. I put the stoppers in the holes in the bottoms and sides of the crates, to dampen vibration and to keep them from slipping around. I then cut the brass rods to fit to spread the crates apart with a moderate amount of compression. The crates lock together. Right now nothing moves, even the littlest bit

Altogether, I probably lost a few cubic feet of usable room, and the ability to put piles of really long things in the box, but for my needs the compartments are much more useful. The crates are short enough I can still put 6-8" worth of long things across the top of the crates without hitting the lid.

Total cost was less than $20 and 2 hours of my time.
